Regular Teaching

Starting in winter term 2023/24 Alexis (Prof. Alexandros Stamatakis) is simultaneously teaching his 3 ECTS Master's level Course on "Introduction to Bioinformatics for Computer Scientists" at the computer science departments of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) in Germany and the University of Crete (UoC).

Alexis will teach a couple of classes live at KIT and stream them to UoC and the other way around, it will be a bit like the Eurovision song contest (Crete, Karlsruhe, can you hear us?).

Further information about the lecture plan and setup including lecture slides and youtube recordings from previous semesters is available at the following URL.

Teaching in spring and summer term at UoC and KIT can not take place simultaneously as the semesters do not overlap sufficiently in time.

While continuing his regular summer teaching at KIT Alexis also set up a new 3ECTS graduate student seminar on "Reproducibility in Bioinformatics" that started at UoC in spring 2024.

Starting in winter term 2024/25 BCG PostDocs Ben Bettisworth, Georgios Koutsovoulos, and Panos Ioannidis, will contribute to teaching the "Introduction to PYTHON Programming" class within the framework of the Bioinformatics Master program at the University of Crete (UoC).

PhD Committees - University of Crete

Alexis forms part of two PhD committee (consistig of three PIs) with Dr. Nikos Poulakakis at the department of Biology of the University of Crete for PhD candidates Jannis Volonakis and Danae Karakasi.

Summer Schools

May 2023: Summer school on computational molecular evolution at the Hellenic Center for Marine Research in Heraklion, Crete, Greece. Alexis served as the main organizer of this school but also taught two lectures and one practical in the framework of this school.
In May 2024, the school will be held on the Sanger-Wellcome campus at Hinxton, UK again supported by the Wellcome trust.
